Learning Activities (designed for a 60 minute class):
- Previous night’s homework: students have used Memrise (a drill and practice software for vocabulary) to learn the vocabulary used in this lesson.
- Paired Conversation (5 minutes): Students begin the lesson with a short conversation in pairs answering the questions posted on the board. Questions are designed to get students to use the vocabulary from the previous night’s homework
- Class Conversation (5 minutes): Students are called upon to answer some additional but related questions using the vocabulary.
- Drill and Practice (20 minutes): Students use their devices to log on to their SuperSite accounts purchased with the textbook. There they complete exercises (example pictured below) and receive enhanced feedback when they chose the wrong answer. During this time the teacher circulates to ensure that students are completing the activity and check for understanding.
- Comprehensible Input (15 minutes): Watch a youtube video with two people discussing travel plans and answer questions on a worksheet. Questions check for comprehension, ask students to listen for specific vocabulary words, and require some extrapolation of information given in the video. The video will need to be watched 2 or 3 times to ensure full comprehension. After the students have filled out the worksheet, the teacher leads a discussion about the video and worksheet questions.
- Instructional Game (15 minutes): Students compete against one another in this teacher-led game where students use their devices as clickers to quickly and accurately chose the correct multiple choice answer from the options listed on the projector. The students can track their points and the 5 top scorers are recognized at the end of the game. Screenshots of the game are pictured below.
